SARIKEI: The upgrading of Pasar Tamu Sentral will bring benefits to over 100 small traders here.

The proposal to upgrade the market was made by the Deputy Minister of Natural Resources, Environment, and Climate Change, Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii, after he inspected the location recently.

“The upgrade proposal was submitted by Huang himself to the MDS, and we forwarded it to the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA). We then followed up with an assessment visit last Sunday,” said chairman of the Sarikei District Council (MDS) Wong Zee Yeng in a statement.

Wong added, “The attractive and comfortable trading environment at Pasar Tamu Sentral shows that the government cares about the interests of small traders in this area.”

“However, it is equally important to provide facilities that enable hawkers to conduct their business in a more conducive environment. This will indirectly attract more customers,” he explained.

The meeting was attended by senior director of FAMA Marketing Institutional Development Division Isa Hamzah, Secretary of MDS Sait Enggang, FAMA Sarawak director Ramli Mat Sani and FAMA Marketing Complex branch director Muhd Nor Badlishah Ahmad Shahrin.
