The upgraded open gallery ruai which will be a gathering spot for villagers.

KUCHING: The project to upgrade the ruai (open gallery) of Kampung Temelan Dayak longhouse in Lundu has been completed in less than two months’ time.

The ruai which will be a gathering spot for the villagers, costs RM150,000  to upgrade under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) and was implemented by the Public Works Department and contractor MOIS Bersatu Enterprise.

Tanjung Datu assemblywoman Datuk Amar Jamilah Anu said that there were other infrastructure projects currently being implemented in the constituency.

“There are also other projects that are yet to be tendered out due to the current conditional movement control order (CMCO),” she said on Friday.

Among them is the project to upgrade the jetty and ramp at Kampung Pugu Lundu which is now at about 30 percent completion.

“This is currently implemented by contractor Khyrell Enterprise at the cost of RM600,000,” she said.

She also said the slowdown in project implementation was to contain the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic, taking into account the safety of the workers and residents in Tanjung Datu.

Community leader Benjamis Gersit Jais thanked Jamilah for the completion of the project, adding that it would allow the villagers to have a proper venue to gather.
