KUCHING: The Sarawak Civil Service (SCS) was urged to uphold values-based leadership while performing their daily responsibilities and tasks.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said that leaders with value-based leadership will instil a common set of values in all employees thus improving their cohesiveness and willingness to work together and form a good team spirit within the organisation.

“Leaders who practise similar values will help to encourage subordinates to follow their instruction, easing the best service delivery to the Rakyat.

“This enhances engagement, performance, and even retention of excellent talent,” he said this through the text speech read by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas during the closing ceremony of the SCS Values Through Leadership Seminar 2022 at the Waterfront Hotel here yesterday.

Abang Johari added that leadership based on values also creates a friendly and inclusive working environment that always bring out the best in others.

“A selfless leader will always put others’ needs ahead of their own and a leader with values will often demonstrate accountability in whatever they do.

Additionally, Abang Johari urges civil servants to continue to inculcate the SCS Six Shared Values to accelerate and sustain the high performing culture in SCS.

Among those present at the event were the Modernisation of Agriculture and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom, Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Integrity and Ombudsman) Datuk Dr Juanda Jaya and State Secretary Datuk Seri Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki.
