BETONG: The Saribas Muslim Association (Perwaris) is taking responsibility to develop the capacity of the rural residents, especially women and youths, by enhancing their knowledge to enable them to improve their economic status.
Its chairman Dr Bolhan Budeng said the capacity in modern agricultural activities should be strengthened among the villagers.
“Alhamdulillah, under the Pewaris agricultural skills building programme, with the cooperation of the Village Headmen Committee, Kampung Melayu Betong managed to attract more than 40 residents to take part in the fertigation planting course.
“It is to provide an opportunity for the residents here to gain knowledge and experience directly as well as practical practices from the instructors appointed in undertaking modern agriculture that is easy through fertigation.
“I hope that the knowledge gained will be utilised to the fullest after this by working on modern agriculture, further generating the economy of the residents’ families,” he said.
He said this after the completion of the Kampung Melayu Betong level Fertigation Crop Course which took place at Dewan al-Husna Masjid Jamek, today.
He said Perwaris hoped to see the residents being able to apply the farming skills in their daily life.
“Thus, by learning directly through this course it is possible to build confidence in striving to improve living standards through modern agricultural practices.
“I am confident that if practiced, it will foster entrepreneurship among the participants,” he said.
He added that with the increasingly challenging life faced nowadays, it was hoped that this initiative could be a way out to generate side income.
He was also optimistic that all the participants would be able to implement fertigation planting projects in groups with the help of funds and equipment from the government.
