UPP announces potential candidates for Sibu, Lanang

SIBU: United People’s Party (UPP) here yesterday announced its potential candidates for Sibu and Lanang Parliamentary seats for the coming 14th General Election (GE14).

Dato Andrew Wong Kee Yew who is named as the potential candidate for the Sibu Parliamentary seat while potential candidate for Lanang is Ting Kee Nguan, 41, a principal of a private kindergarten.

Dato Andrew Wong is chairman of UPP Community Service Board (Sibu) and a former deputy chairman of Sibu Municipal Council (SMC).

President of UPP, Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh, who is also Minister of International Trade and E-Commerce announced the two potential candidates for Sibu and Lanang Parliamentary seats during a luncheon at Kingwood Hotel here, yesterday.

Speaking at the function, Wong said UPP has started to announce its potential candidates starting from Sibu.

“We are announcing our potential candidates starting from Sibu before we go to other places to announce our potential candidates for the coming 14th General Election.

“As Malaysian citizens, we have responsibility to select winnable candidates for the 14th General Election. And UPP is united to choose eligible candidates to become the people’s representatives to represent Sibu and Lanang Parliamentary seats. I know both Andrew Wong and Ting are prepared to come forward to serve with commitment and dedication for the people,” Wong pointed out.

Wong who is Second Minister of Finance called on the people to rally behind UPP and give their full support to the two potential candidates, particularly the young people because UPP is a party that provides opportunities for the people, especially the younger ones.

Thus, Wong hoped that the young people would come forward to serve the people and be the leaders of tomorrow.

He also advised the party members to make themselves easily approachable and accessible and to organise many programmes and activities for the younger people.

“We must establish communication channel with the young people and to get them involved in decision making and coordinated activities and to treat them as capable in facing reality and responding to challenges,” he added.

During the function, Wong also launched ‘Rancangan Sibu 1’ (RS1) which is a 5-year development plan for Sibu.

Among those present were UPP deputy president, Datuk Dr Jerip Susil, UPP Secretary General, George Lo, UPP senior vice president, Dato Ranum Mina, UPP senior vice president, Datuk Tiong Thai King, UPP vice president, Dr Johnical Rayong Ngipa.
