UPP team lends help to Teku fire victims

FIRE victims of Kampung Bahagia Jaya, Teku in a group photo with donors from UPP Sibu Community Service Board, Giant Hypermarket Sibu, and Moma Water.

SIBU: United People’s Party (UPP) Sibu Community Service Board (LPK) yesterday handed over donation to fire victims of Kampung Bahagia Jaya, Teku whose house destroyed in a fire incident that occurred at 10.15pm on Tuesday night.

Chairman of UPP Sibu Community Service Board, Dato Andrew Wong handed over donation in the form of daily necessities to all the fire victims at a programme held at Surau Darul Halim, Kampung Bahagia Jaya, Teku here on Thursday.

Speaking when met by reporters, Wong said community service board is more of like quick response team here apart from doing Sibu development.

“We actually already have a fund, thus we don’t need to wait for donation to come in and don’t need certain approval. We can response faster and help those in need.

“The fund is actually for the smaller community project, meaning those under our social and community development committee.

“Under this particular committee, we have  fund to just for this kind of unfortunate incident,” he explained.

At the same function, Giant Hypermarket, Sibu also handed over donation in the form of daily necessities while Moma Water handed over donation in the form of 60 boxes of drinks (1.5 liter drinking bottle).

Besides that, a businessman, Hii Chan Hoe also handed over his personal donation to school children aged five and eight (fire victims). Both of the children received RM100 each.

Penghulu Ekram Kassim was among those present.
