USD 15 million film to be shot in Sarawak

KUCHING: A film with an estimated cost of USD 15 million is set to be shot in the state, said Assistant Minister of Tourism Datuk Lee Kim Shin.

According to the assistant minister, filming will take place between October this year to March next year and will involve a few hundred people.

“We had a group of movie producers who are keen to film a movie in Sarawak, so they are here on a recce mission.

“They have been to Mulu and are now here to do recce; more members will come in to join soon,” he said during a press conference at Baitulmakmur here on Tuesday.

Although he didn’t reveal any information on the movie that will be filmed, Lee said that it was going to be a big movie as it will be shown in China first before being shown in other parts of the world.

“We are happy to see that nowadays more movie producers are interested to come to Sarawak.

“They are here to get more information about how they can proceed with filming and so on.

“Our ministry and Sarawak Tourism will do our part in helping them,” he said.

He also added that actors from Hollywood, China, and Malaysia will be involved in the filming process which will see Mulu as its main focus.

Earlier on, a courtesy call by New Idea New Entertainment managing director James Kong and A Next Star Production Sdn Bhd CEO Megan Fong was paid to Lee; both companies will be co-producing the movie.
