BINTULU: Be brave and shed those backward traditional methods, residents of Kampung Similajau Baru at Pesisir Bintulu-Miri Road were told.

Samalaju assemblyman Majang Renggi called on the people to adopt modern technologies instead, saying they need to move with the time or they will be left behind by progress.

“Even working the land calls for using modern methods now because only modern technologies can ensure commercial values,” he said during a Majlis Ramah Mesra Gawai Raya 2019 at Kampung Similajau Baru here yesterday.

“Such an approach can more or less increase their income as well as the economic status of the residents and settlers at the village,” he said.

He said if the residents still stick to traditional methods, their harvest will not be enough to cover their living expenses as their respective land areas are not so big.

Hence, he suggested that the parties involved take part in a course related to modern agriculture at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) Bintulu Campus and Pusat Pertanian Batu 11 at Bintulu-Miri Road towards the effort.

Majang also called for cooperation in developing the village due to its strategic position within industrial areas (Kidrong and Samalaju).

At the ceremony, the assemblyman also announced a RM30,000 minor rural project (MRP) grant to the Village Security and Development Committee (JKKK) of Kampung Similajau Baru.

At the same time, Bintulu MP Datuk Sri Tiong King Sing also contributed RM10,000 to the committee.
