LUNDU: Recipients of Minor Rural Project (MRP) grants are reminded to use the money wisely.

Tanjong Datu assemblyman Azizul Annuar Adenan said the funds should benefit the recipients, who included associations, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and village committees.

“There have been instances of funds not properly used and this has tarnished the reputation of the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK).

“As a result, fingers have been pointed at the assemblyman and the government,” he said.

He was speaking at the handover of MRP grants here on Tuesday (Aug 2).

Azizul added that as part of a comprehensive development project for the entire Tanjong Datu area, he had requested from the Sarawak government RM2mil for the construction of a drainage system, another RM2mil for a road, and RM5mil to upgrade a wooden bridge to a concrete one.

A total of RM85,500 was given to 18 recipients, including JKKKs and NGOs, to be used for projects that will benefit the villages.
