Penguang speaks to the villagers at the longhouse.

KUCHING: Village and longhouse dwellers are urged to use rational approaches and the right channels in settling issues and disputes among them.

Local Government Assistant Minister Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil highlighted this in the dispute between joint venture participants from Rh John Marikan Sg Buti, Ulu Teru and Land Custody and Development Authority (LCDA).

“I am grateful that after a few rounds of negotiations, the issue between the joint venture participants and LCDA has reached a resolution.

“While there are still a few issues that are still in discussions, I am confident a resolution to that can also be reached if the negotiations are done using the right platform,” he said in a Facebook post on Saturday.

Earlier, the Marudi assemblyman visited Rh John Marikan Sg Buti, Ulu Teru longhouse in conjunction with its golden jubilee celebration.

During the ceremony, he witnessed the presentation of incentives from PJP Pelita Ulu Teru Plantation Sdn Bhd to joint venture participants as well as an ex-gratia payment for Pulau Kongsi Sg Buti worth RM129,524.

Penguang also presented allocations worth RM28,000 for longhouse repair to their Village Safety and Development Committee (JKKK) and a RM5,000 grant to its Women Bureau.

He took note of the villager’s request for their church to be completed, saying the matter would be brought to the Unit for Other Religions (Unifor).

Also present during the ceremony were a political secretary to the chief minister, Alexander Asing, Marudi district police chief DSP Jo Hang, community leaders and representatives from LCDA.
