SIBU: University of Technology Sarawak (UTS) held its third charity event called ‘Show You Care, Give A Share’ by giving basic food necessity aid to 58 families here on Monday (March 13).

Its vice-chancellor Professor Datuk Dr Khairuddin Abdul Hamid said the event organised by the School of Business Management in collaboration with the Food Technology Programme under the School of Engineering and Technology, initially targeted 50 families.

“However, today, we managed to exceed our target by distributing the aid to 58 families instead. Each food basket had RM100 worth of basic food necessities such as a bag of rice, canned food, and more,” he said before handing out the aid to the families listed for the programme here.

On the objective of the event, Khairuddin noted that it is not only organised to relieve the economic burden of affected groups but also to raise awareness and inspire UTS staff specifically, to get involved in charity-based events.

“This is one of the functions of the university. UTS located in Sibu is not only responsible for producing quality professionals but also producing graduates who are responsible to the community.

“Therefore, we always instill lessons so that our students are always side by side with the community. Try to understand what the problems are and contribute to them so that when they graduate, they will become a responsible society and help each other regardless of race and religious background,” he said.
