SIBU: University of Technology Sarawak (UTS) achieved another milestone on Tuesday (Nov 1) by inking deals to collaborate with the New York Institute of Finance (NYIF) and NIUFU Consulting Management (M) Sdn Bhd (NIUFU).

Its Vice-Chancellor, Professor Datuk Dr Khairuddin Abdul Hamid said the collaboration is one of its efforts to provide more access to professional certifications to their staff and students.

Khairuddin noted that NYIF provides world-class training to professionals in the financial services and related industries and is one of the world’s first dedicated organisations for training business and finance professionals which has expanded its services worldwide.

“With this collaboration, NYIF will provide practical courses, curriculum, and expert knowledge related to the financial industry.

“Staff and students who complete these courses will be awarded with certificates issued by NYIF, which are globally recognised and trusted by international financial organisations.

“They will become members of the prestigious NYIF global alumni network. With its vast network of university partners, NYIF will promote and facilitate joint educational programmes with selected universities in the USA,” he said.

He said this during the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony between UTS and NYIF as well as NIUFU on Tuesday (Nov 1).

On UTS’ collaboration with NIUFU Khairuddin said it was to carry out agreed activities such as industrial training, entrepreneurship training, student recruitment and business programme development.

“Both MoU are for three years and the School of Business and Development (SMB) will be the main contact entity representing UTS.

“At the same, we believe that through this collaboration, the students will have the opportunity to obtain invaluable international professional certification in specific topics of industrial relevance, especially in the fields of business and finance,” he said.

Meanwhile, NIUFU Chairman Professor Datuk Dr Sabarudin Mohd said that there are four aspects and areas that they seek from collaborating with UTS.

“First is to offer NYIF professional courses to UTS students, meaning to offer some additional certification for all the students here. This will be another recognition for the students.

“Two, to do student recruitment, we are not only a recruitment agency but we want to become the collaborator, meaning we will take care of the students we recruit from A to Z, until their graduation,” he said.
