SIBU: A charity event organised by University of Technology Sarawak (UTS)’s School of Engineering and Technology (SET) rolled off today (Mar 29).

The ‘Together We Care’ programme is organised in collaboration with the School of Business and Management (SBM).

Event director Mohammad Hafsanjani Salleh said 45 families in need from various communities in have been targeted.

“We will start off today (Mar 29) until April 4 to personally distribute the food supplies, donations from UTS staff and pre-loved items such as bags, clothes and shoes to the needy families at their doorstep,” he told a press conference at UTS campus here.

Hafsanjani, a lecturer in SET, said its food technology programme in collaboration with SBM had earlier proposed a charity-based event with aim of helping targeted groups in need of aid, especially basic food.

He explained that the ongoing pandemic COVID-19 situation, as well as rising prices of goods, had economically affected some families.

“Therefore, this charity event hopefully relieves their burden to some extent.

“Besides that, the objective is also to raise awareness and inspire the community and UTS staff specifically, to get involved in charity-based events,” he said.

Hafsajani said the needy families identified through non-governmental organisations would be receiving RM100 worth of food supplies.

The event will be organised annually to help create a caring society.

Also present at the press conference was event co-director Mohd Kamarul Anwar Mohd Suhaimi, a lecturer from SBM.
