MIRI: A wooden house in Kampung Tanjong Belipat Niah collapsed on Sunday morning (July 18).

No one was hurt in the incident as the house has been vacant for nearly a year.

According to Miri Fire and Rescue Department chief Supt Law Poh Kiong, a team of firemen from Batu Niah fire station was deployed to the scene at 8.55am.

“The night prior to the incident, a neighbour had heard a loud cracking noise coming from the house around 7.40pm.

“A team of firemen from Batu Niah fire station was deployed to the scene to search for any possible victims, but then we were told that the house had been vacant since a year ago,” Law said.

It is understood that the houseowner and his family has been in Kuching for the past one year.

Sibuti MP Lukanisman Awang Sauni went to the scene upon being notified on the incident on Sunday.

The wooden structure of the house had caved in.
