BAU: The first dose of Covid-19 vaccine was given to 126 primary students aged 12 at the Kampung Serasot multi-purpose hall on Wednesday (Sept 29).

Tasik Biru assemblyman Datuk Henry Harry Jinep, who was there to observe the vaccination process, noted that the students were delighted to be inoculated.

“I was informed that the students who received the first dose are from seven primary schools in Jagoi.

“From what I can see, the programme was run very well. The students were glad that they get the vaccine because school will reopen soon.”

The vaccination process lasted until 1pm, and he expressed his gratitude to parents who accompanied their children.

“This programme will not happen if not for the support of their parents, and thank you to the Ministry of Health for providing the vaccine as well as the medical staff.

“Thank you also to the school teachers for supporting the vaccination programme.”

Medical officer and supervisor of the vaccination programme, Dr Gerald Sim informed that the programme would last for six days in Bau District.

“It’s the second day and it’ll continue until Monday (Oct 3) with around 5,400 students (40 primary and four secondary schools) set to receive the vaccine.

“At the same time today, the programme was also conducted at SJK Chung Hua, Siniawan.

“Yesterday (Sept 28), the programme started at the Krokong community hall and will continue at SMK Singai, SMK Bau, SMK Lake and SMK Paku, and the Kampung Daun multipurpose hall.

“It is thanks to support from the Bau District Council, MOH as well as the Tasik Biru assemblyman, not forgetting community leaders and village chiefs.”

Dr Sim also mentioned that they would begin to administer the second dose for students aged 16 to 17, and for students aged 12 to 15, who have comorbid diseases.

For students aged 12 to 15 (who have no comorbid diseases), they would receive the second dose at the end of October, he added.
