KUCHING: The federal government will increase the allocation of Covid-19 vaccines in the Santubong parliamentary constituency.

Federal Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said this assurance was given by federal Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Khairy Jamaluddin following a meeting on Thursday (June 24).

“I had a discussion with Khairy, who has already agreed to increase the distribution of Covid-19 vaccine in Santubong, starting next July.

“The people in Santubong are prepared to be vaccinated. Meanwhile, logistically, all six of our vaccination centres (PPV) in Santubong have also made thorough preparations to implement the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (NCIP).

“We hope the community in Santubong parliamentary constituency will achieve group immunity in August,” he said in a Facebook post on Thursday.

At the same time, the Santubong MP thanked Khairy for his swift response to increase the distribution of vaccines in Santubong and ensure the safety and welfare of Sarawakians.

Last week, Wan Junaidi said the six PPVs in Santubong were only able to administer 3,000 doses per week due to the lack of vaccine supply for the area.

“In order to vaccinate 70 per cent of its people and achieve herd immunity by as early as August, more supply of vaccines to be made available to the people of Santubong soon.”

In terms of rolling out the vaccination programme, he said the six centres were well prepared both in terms of logistics arrangements as well as getting the people’s support and participation.
