MEDIA CONFERENCE... Director of the Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB), IR Chang Kuet Shian at the JBALB Media Engagment in Kuching yesterday.

KUCHING: Acts of vandalism on water facilities, equipment and operations have become rampant, thus disrupting daily water supply in the rural areas of Sarawak.

Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) Director Chang Kuet Sian said vandalism had thus affected the people greatly.

He added that it had also caused the department to spend on repairing and upgrading damaged facilities, equipment as well as the operations.

“It is annoying the see our things being vandalised, it takes us time and money to repair and replace some equipment, some may take longer to get it to operate.

“It is irresponsible that people are vandalising our equipment and I do not know why they are doing it.

“Many people have suffered from this and could not get water. So we have to spend unnecessarily,” he said during the JBALB Media Engagement high tea ceremony at Waterfront Hotel, yesterday (Jan 18).

Chang noted that the department is now embarking on ensuring their equipment and facilities are safe from being vandalised and water supply smoothly delivered to the people.
