KUCHING: The government has planned and implemented entrepreneurship development programmes, particularly for the youth. Among the programmes, said Assistant Minister of Entrepreneur and Small, Medium Enterprise (SME) Development, Datuk Naroden Majais are graduate entrepreneurship programme (GERAK) organised by the Ministry of Industrial and Entrepreneur Development (MIED), entrepreneurial startup scheme (SUPERB) organised by Teraju, youth entrepreneurship programme (TUBE) organised by SME Corp and Rural Business Challenge (RBC) programme organised by the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development.
“The success of these schemes in developing youth entrepreneurs for 2016 for the Gerak (2016) programme where a total of 92 participants or 15 per cent have registered and run businesses in the various fields out of 600 participants in psychometric and boot camp screening programmes.
“For the Superb programme organised by Teraju (2016) at the national level, one out of 100 Sarawak participants has won Superb initial grant amounting to RM500,000. And since it was introduced in 2014, until now four Sarawak entrepreneurs have benefited from the programme,” he said in responding to a question by Tupong assemblyman, Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman at the State Legislative Assembly Sitting here, yesterday.
Meanwhile, for the Tube programme organised by SME Corp in 2016, Naroden said a total of 46 participants or 16 per cent has been successful in carrying out business out of the 294 participants. For the Rural Business Challenge (RBC) programme organised by the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development, he said two participants or 15 per cent have received award out of 13 Sarawak participants which have been shortlisted. He added that until October this year, five participants from Sarawak have received awards for the RBC programme.
