KUCHING: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) recently collaborated with the University of Amsterdam (VU Amsterdam) and University for Development Studies (UDS) in Ghana on a course which addressed unconnected people.

“ICT4D in the Field” was a global community service learning course that was open to students undertaking the masters’ course with bachelor-level background in one of the digital fields (Information System, Computer Science, AI, Digital Humanities and Computational Social Sciences).

The international course addressed problems and solutions for the unconnected people in the world, where the majority of whom live in poor, remote, often rural regions, often in so-called developing low or middle-income countries.

The course was coordinated by a team of lecturers, including Dr. Cheah WaiShiang from Unimas, Francis Dittoh from UDS and Dr Anna Bon from VU Amsterdam.

Unimas had successfully co-organised the course with VU Amsterdam in 2018, 2019 and 2021. This year, “ICT4D in the Field” was organised virtually from  June 7  to July 5 in 2022.
