KUCHING: The Covid-19 pandemic is no damper for Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) to continue hosting the International Engineering Conference 2020 (EnCon 2020).
The conference, a flagship of the varsity, was conducted fully online for the first time in its 13-year history on Tuesday (Oct 27).
Unimas deputy vice chancellor (Research and Innovation), Prof Dr Wan Hashim Wan Ibrahim described the conference’s theme of “Empowering Industry and Transforming Society through Engineering, Technology and Management” as timely.
“This will act as a medium to build networking and collaborations between academic and industrial professionals for the benefit and betterment of the society,” he said in his opening address.
He also highlighted the importance of building networking and forming collaborations between academia and industrial professionals.
EnCon 2020 organising chairperson, Dr Ting Sim Nee said the conference featured more than 120 technical papers with about 300 registered participants making this year’s edition of the conference the biggest ever held.
During the ceremony, nine memorandums of agreement (MoA) and memorandums of understanding (MoU) were also announced between Unimas Faculty of Engineering and several industry players and other universities.
The four MoAs were with Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak, Universitas Kristen Indonesia, CWorks Technologies Sdn Bhd and Universitas Pembangunan Jaya, Indonesia.
The five MOUs were with Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (Miros), Monash University Malaysia Sdn Bhd, Tekmark Sdn Bhd, D’Amante (M) Sdn Bhd and Universitas Lancang Kuning, Indonesia.
The two-day conference featured five special industry tracks and ten technical presentation tracks and four keynote speeches by prominent local and international speakers.
These sessions brought together research topics and industrial experience concerning the latest developments in science, engineering and technologies.
