Vegetable traders arrested in Molotov cocktail case

KUCHING: Two vegetable traders have been arrested for alleged involvement in a molotov cocktail which was thrown at a house in Kampung Beratok, Jalan Kuching-Serian last Thursday morning.

Padawan deputy police chief DSP Lim Jaw Shyong said both traders aged 32 and 37, were arrested around 4.40pm.

The traders – a man and a woman, were arrested in Kota Sentosa Market, Mile 7 by a CID team.

He said the duo would be remanded to facilitate police investigations under Section 436 of the Penal Code.

Background checks found both of them do not have any past records and were also found negative of drugs.

At around 1am on Thursday, a family in Kampung Beratok was startled by the sound of an explosion outside their house.

Family members rushed out of the house and found the front area of their house on fire. They quickly extinguished the flames which had caused damages to the door, iron grille and walls of the house.

The family suffered an estimated loss of RM3,500 due to the damages caused by a molotov cocktail.
