Veterans department visits Rangers’ widows

SERIAN: Sarawak Veterans Affairs Department (JHEV) visited two widows of former members of Malaysia Armed Forces (MAF) Sarawak Rangers in Kampung Ensebang Plaie last Wednesday.

According to a statement issued, Sarawak JHEV MAF director Major Pahot Joll conducted the first visit to Demian Akon, widow of Private Naka Ngumbang.

Demian who is now 99 years old, is aging and helpless. Her late husband, Naka, died on Feb 7, 2001.

She is now living with her daughter-in-law Roseline after her son Baking Naka who also had passed away.

The welfare visit was to Bayan Rangie, widow of Private Kusam Mandau.

Bayan is 84 years old and she has four children — two of them are disabled. She relies on her two other children.

From the visit, the department will work on getting Bantuan Sara Hidup (BSH) aids for both widows to ease their burdens.
