KUCHING: Sarawak cannot afford to be left behind and dwell on petty matters all the time, said Utilities Minister Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom.

“We all know that as the DUN (State Legislative Assembly) term is nearing the end, the opposition will find issues to stir up voters’ sentiment.

“However, when they had the opportunity to rule the country, their unfulfilled manifesto is enough to prove siapa yang ‘ngeluar air liur’ (who was all talk) and they admittedly said ‘enda bula enda menang’ (if you do not lie, you will not win),” he said when contacted on Saturday (August 15).

He was commenting on Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg earlier slamming his critics who claimed that he “ngeluar air liur aja” (all talk and no action).

Rundi said that he supported the chief minister’s visionary leadership.

“As a responsible leader, he has a viable forward-looking agenda to bring Sarawak towards developed state status,” he said.

He said that, at the same time, Abang Johari strove to resolve matters concerned for improvement at hand, such as the continued agenda of Rural Transformation Project (RTP), people’s projects, and the largest allocations ever for utilities and road infrastructure especially in the rural areas.

He pointed out that the chief minister had also set up the overall regional development agencies, namely the Upper Rajang Development Agency (Urda), Northern Region Development Agency (NRDA), Highland Development Agency (HDA), Integrated Regional Samarahan Development Agency (IRSDA), and Sri Aman Development Area (Sada).

When launching the nation’s first 5G test bed on Friday (August 14) at the Centre of Technical Excellence Sarawak (Centexs) here, Abang Johari emphasised that Sarawak with its aim of becoming a developed state could not be left behind in terms of technology, which would dominate all economic sectors in the future.

He said that people may consider him too ambitious, but countered that Sarawak would be left far behind if it did not follow the global trend of development.
