MUKAH: The first village commercial centre (VCC) or Pusat Komersial Desa Tellian/Gerai Hasil Laut at Kampung Seri Tellian (Tellian Tengah) here was officially opened and commenced operation on Friday (Feb 19).

It was yet another initiative by Tellian assemblyman Yussibnosh Balo to help his constituents especially small traders, following Tellian Floating Market which he launched here on Jan 2.

According to him, VCC is a platform introduced to help increase participation of local people in economic activity, towards increasing their income.

“As a start, VCC is introduced in Kampung Seri Tellian (Tellian Tengah) first and others will follow suit in stages,” he said when officiating at a soft opening of Pusat Komersial Desa Tellian/Gerai Hasil Laut at Kampung Seri Tellian here on Friday (Feb 19).

VCC Tellian is managed by a local company, Coastal Borneo Sdn Bhd., supervised by Kampung Seri Tellian village development and security committee (JKKK) and supported by Mukah/Oya Area Fishermen Association (PNK).

Yussibnosh added he was grateful to the landowner, Dalat and Mukah District Council (MDDM) for allowing Coastal Borneo to use the site, which was also where the old building of Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Kampung Tellian was located before it was demolished.

According to him, other VCCs have also been built in Kampung Petanak and Kampung Judan. However, both have yet to commence operation.

He added in Kampung Petanak, the VCC may be equipped with a gazebo, which would be rented out, while in Kampung Judan, it has yet to be connected with electric supply.

Yussibnosh revealed that another VCC had been proposed in Kampung Kuala Lama, but yet to get land approval from Land and Survey Department, and the proposed site is somewhere near the multi-purpose hall.

Like Tellian Floating Market, VCC is also associated to MukahXtra initiative, a new development approach aimed at helping to generate economic activity post-Covid-19 pandemic.

According to him, Tellian Floating Market may also be introduced in other areas in Tellian constituency, such as Tellian Floating Market — Sebakong or Tellian Floating Market — Nanga Baoh.
