KUCHING: Folk of Kampung Sungai Kut Tengah, Dalat will soon benefit from the proposed construction of a new mosque in their village.

Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah recently visited the construction site of the mosque.

The Dalat assemblywoman said the land was donated by a local religious figure Khalidi Ayub for the construction of the mosque as well as a community hall.

“I hope that he will be rewarded by God and that our request for funding from Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg to build the mosque is approved,” she said today.

Meanwhile, Fatimah said that there are various notable participants and winners of the Quran recital (Tilawah Al-Quran) who hails from Kampung Sungai Kut Tengah.

“This is the village that produces national and international Tilawah Al-Quran champions, among them are Amnah Ayub, Roziah Ayub and Khalidi Ayub. The late Ayub Tanggoi himself was a state Tilawah Al-Quran champion,” she said.

Fatimah said the Ayub family now has groomed its descendants to continue the family’s legacy of being renowned Al-Quran reciters.

“Now, his (Ayub) grandchildren, the third generation of qari and qariah (men and women) who recite the Holy Quran according to proper recitation rules, is coming up.

“Roziah now conducts Al-Quran recitation classes for the village. This will be one of the main activities of the community resource centre at the mosque,” she said.
