Villager dies in attack; three held

SERIAN: A villager died about 16 hours after he was set upon by a group of men close to where he had lived here on Thursday (May 19).

District police chief DSP Aswandy Anis said three suspects have since been picked up for questioning.

Recounting the attack, he said the victim’s wife who was putting their child to sleep at around 4pm heard her husband screaming.

“The victim’s wife found her husband lying unconscious, some 50 metres outside their house.

“The victim was promptly rushed to the Balai Ringin health clinic before he was referred to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for further treatment,” he said.

Aswandy revealed that the hospital pronounced him dead at 8.45am the next day while still receiving treatment.

He explained that the case initially investigated under Section 325 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt, has been reclassified under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

“The police are still conducting further investigations to identify the motive for the attack,” he said.
