KUCHING: About 15 households at Kampung Sungai Resat, a village approximately 45 minutes from Kuching are appealing for their homes to be connected with electricity.

Despite the whole of Sungai Resat being under the national grid, a handful of residents have been without electricity — some have been waiting since 2007.

Habitat for Indigenous and Urban Programme (Hidup) president George Young Si Ricord Jr, who visited them recently, said the residents informed him that all of them had submitted their details to the village head since 2012 when the second phase of power was installed, but to date they are still left in the dark about their application for electricity.

“It is an inconceivable notion to justify that for every query made by these applicants, the standard response is that it’s in progress.

“My utmost concern is that these house owners might have to resort to pulling in powers from the nearby homes of relatives of kind neighbours,” he said, adding that it could be dangerous.

Therefore, he urged relevant parties to take the residents’ safety into consideration and start taking action.
