BETONG: Villagers were shocked to find skeletal remains in a forest at Bukit Rabung, Tabut, Skrang on Thursday night (Oct 22).

According to a spokesperson from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre, the remains were found by villagers who were inspecting their snares in the forest.

Around 7pm that evening, Betong fire and rescue chief received a call from the police regarding the discovery of skeletal remains and requested that the firefighters assist the police in retrieving the remains the next morning (Friday).

It was told that the location of the remains was about 1.3km from Karin longhouse and it took 20 minutes to reach the said location.

The skeleton along with other items such as a shirt, hat and bag were collected and put in a corpse bag and handed over to the police for further action.

At the moment the remains’ identity has yet to be confirmed pending laboratory reports.

However, it is believed that the skeletal remains belonged to a 70-year-old woman who was reported missing since July 22 this year.
