LUNDU: Villagers in Kampung Stungkor Baru here will soon receive title to their Native Customary Rights (NCR) lands.

Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA) president, Datuk Ik Pahon Joyik said documentation works on the 456 lots involving 395 residents have been completed.

The land documentation work was the result of a collaboration between the village’s Land Bureau and DBNA which will then be forwarded to the Sarawak Land and Survey Department (JTS) for the lots to be surveyed and the owners issued land title.

“The purpose of this documentation is to let the land owners know the location of their land as well as demarcation of boundaries between the owners.

“DBNA took the initiative to help the Sarawak government through the JTS to survey the residents’ land lots after realising that the issue of land as a site for building houses is decreasing while the local population continues to increase,” he said.

Ik Pahon was speaking at the presentation ceremony of the land documents for traditional and agricultural lots at Kampung Stungkor Baru recently.

He said that a joint committee between DBNA and JTS was established recently with members consisting of elected representatives, whose role is to suggest to the department the appropriateness of carrying out land surveying works either under perimeter survey or Section 18 of the State Land Code (SLC) in their respective constituencies.

“Therefore, I call on the residents to cooperate with the land bureau and also the assemblymen in their respective areas so that the land documentation can be brought to the committee meeting, and then allow the JTS to carry out the survey work,” he said.

Opar assemblyman Billy Sujang, who was also present, urged residents who have yet to have their land documented, to take the opportunity to ensure they were not left behind.

“For the documentation that has been completed and finalised by DBNA, I will submit it to JTS,” he said.

He commended the successful efforts achieved by the residents of Kampung Stungkor Baru and hoped that other villages would also follow suit.
