KUCHING: Several Malay villages in the Marudi constituency received their minor rural project (MRP) funds in preparation for the upcoming Hari Raya celebration.
Local Government and Housing Assistant Minister Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil presented the funds to the village safety and development committees (JKKKs) during a ceremony last Friday.
Among the villages that received the funds were Kampung Narum (RM10,000), Kampung Dagang (RM5,000), Kampung Pemindahan (RM10,000) and Kampung Padang Kerbau (RM5,000).
“This allocation is for the preparation of the villages to celebrate Hari Raya soon. Baram MP Anyi Ngau also distributed financial assistance to the less fortunate in the Malay villages in Beluru,” he said in a Facebook post.
Penguang said he had previously distributed assistance to 76 asnaf — a group of people entitled to receiving tithes (zakat) — in Marudi through their respective village heads.
Later in the day, the Marudi assemblyman also visited Kampung Benawa to hold a dialogue with the village head and the JKKK.
There, he presented financial assistances to the asnaf as well as a RM5,000 MRP grant to the JKKK in preparation for the Hari Raya celebration.
At the same time, he was also informed that the Rural Electrification Scheme (RES) project for the village has been completed.
