KUCHING: The Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) has denied issuing any statement regarding Covid-19 infection among military personnel during early voting for the Sabah state election (PRN) last Tuesday.

In a statement issued today, MAF said a viral statement circulating on social media saying that military personnel were infected after dipping their fingers with ink during the early voting process in the Sabah state election, was untrue.

“(The statement) can cause confusion, community concern and disrupt the Sabah PRN process.

“Any individuals found to be spreading fake news can be charged under Section 233 of Multimedia and Communications Act 1998,” the statement said.

The public are advised not to be easily swayed by fake news that could spark unease among the community.

Additionally, members of the public can obtain the latest information through the official channels of the National Security Council and Ministry of Health (MoH) regarding the Covid-19 pandemic.
