Baru Bian…may face a challenge.

KUCHING: Works Minister Baru Bian has urged Malaysians to visit not only their close friends but also their neighbours and new acquaintances during this year’s Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

In his Hari Raya message yesterday, the minister pointed out, “The spirit of visiting will not only help us expand our circles, it will also surely strengthen our bonds with our loved ones.

“I am confident that the celebration of Hari Raya Aidil Fitri this year will unite everyone, regardless of background, political views, or religion. So, let’s visit!”

He added the celebration of festivals in Malaysia would continue to have a unifying effect on its multiracial and multireligious population.

Baru reminisced about his schooling days at SMK Limbang, when he and his friends would visit those who were celebrating Aidilfitri.

“We didn’t just want to make merry, we wanted to get to know the families of those we were visiting. Even though some of us were not very familiar with them, we were made to feel so welcome by their friendliness and hospitality as they served us delicious food and kuih,” he recalled.

He hoped that the ties of friendship forged by the festivities would continue to blossom, uniting the people and leading to the growth and prosperity of the country.

“On behalf of my family and my ministry, I would like to wish Muslims all over the country ‘Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri’.

“The happiness and gratitude felt in this celebration is a symbol of success during the fasting month of Ramadan. I hope that we will all celebrate this festive season with forgiveness and joy,” said Baru.
