KUCHING: Many exciting programmes and activities are going to take place during the inaugural Sarawak AgroFest 2018, which is organised by the Sarawak Government under the Ministry of Modernisation of Agriculture, Native Land and Regional Development Sarawak together with the Department of Agriculture and Department of Veterinary Services Sarawak.
The event, supported by Sarawak Development Institute, Sarawak Multimedia Authority, PERDASAMA Sarawak and Sarawak Convention Bureau, takes place from October 20-28 at Penview Convention Centre (PCC) in Demak here.
The Sarawak AgroFest 2018 is set to be the premier agricultural festival in Sarawak that combines exhibition and sales, conferences and seminars, business matching, Sarawak Kitchen, mini zoo, games, competition and performances.
Sarawak AgroFest is rebranded from Hari Peladang, Penternak dan Nelayan (HPPN). It aims to actively promote agriculture and agro-based industry in the state. As Sarawak aims to be a net exporter of food products by 2030, it will leverage on modern technology to rapidly transform its agricultural sector.
The second edition of the International Conference on Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Sarawak (ICAAS) will be organised with the theme “Transforming the Agriculture Sector through Smart Farming”. About 30 speakers from throughout Malaysia as well as Thailand, Taiwan and Indonesia are expected to share their success stories and knowledge on precision farming, investment incentives for commercialisation, best practices and models for public-private sector partnership and business models of farmers’ organisations.
Keynote speakers from Thailand and Australia will be sharing on Smart Farm, Smart Entrepreneur and Smart Farming: Key to Future Farming respectively. The Entrepreneurship Seminar by PERDASAMA Sarawak and the Youth Agropreneurship Programme by the Ministry of Modernisation of Agriculture, Native Land and Regional Development Sarawak will be held on October 22 and October 25-26 respectively. Other exciting happenings during the Sarawak AgroFest 2018 include an exhibition on the local agricultural produce and agro-based products and services. Limited booths are available for private companies to showcase their products and services at the festival.
