KUCHING: The Head of State, Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud yesterday received two courtesy calls at Astana Negeri here. The first courtesy call was from Persatuan Guru Al-Quran Bahagian Kuching (PGQBK) led by its chairman, Mohamad Yasin Pakir.

The aim of the visit was to seek help from Tun Taib so that the association could continue to produce quality reciters of the AI-Quran who would represent Sarawak in competitions.

PGQBK gathers Qari and Qariah in Kuching under one roof with the aim of improving the quality of reciting the Al-Quran. It trains Qari and Qariah who represent Sarawak at the national and international level Majlis Tilawah Quran.

The next courtesy call Tun Taib received came from a Kuching South City Council (MBKS) delegation led by MBKS Mayor, Dato James Chan Khay Syn. The aim of the visit was to invite the Head of State to grace the Kuching City Day Street Parade 2018 which would take place on September 22 at Padang Merdeka Kuching.

Present during the courtesy call was the Mayor of Kuching North City Commission, Datuk Abang Abdul Wahap Abang Julai.
