KUCHING: Sarawak Day on July 22 is an important celebration for Sarawakians as it is a commemoration of our independence achieved in 1963.

It is a milestone of self-government for Sarawak and its people, said Batu Kitang assemblymen Lo Khere Chiang.

He said that Sarawak Day should be celebrated when all of its rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) have been returned.

He noted that Sarawak’s rights should be respected and returned by the federal government.

“We want our rights back from the federal government. If the rights returned to us, Sarawak will be a prosperous and harmonious state,” he pointed out.

Lo also reminded that younger generations need to remember this historical day and together putting Sarawak into a path towards a better future.

“For the next generations of Sarawakians, Sarawak Day is an important day and should be remembered as it is part of our history.

“Sarawak Day is very important to every Sarawakian and I wish all Sarawakians good health when celebrating it next week,” he said.
