Customers at VivaCity Megamall have their body temperature checked through the thermal body scanner before they are allowed to enter the mall.

KUCHING: VivaCity Megamall is believed to be the first shopping mall here to use a thermal body scanner to scan its staff and customers instead of using the handheld digital thermometers for temperature checks.

This kind of scanner system is often placed at international airports.

On VivaCity’s post on Facebook Saturday, it said the temperature scan point is located at the lower ground west entrance of the mall which is beside Watson.

“All shoppers and staff are required to go through the temperature scanning process before entering the mall. Let’s keep fighting (against Covid-19),” the mall said in the post.

Ever since the MCO, the standard operating procedure (SOP) for malls or shops is for them to scan customers’ temperature to make sure no one with high fever enters the mall.

This is part of the safety measure is to curb the spread of Covid-19.
