Volunteers gather to build garden

MUKAH: Some 20 volunteers from local governmental and non-governmental organisations teamed up to build a garden for the Mukah Children Activity Centre (PAKK) here last Saturday (Oct 10) in conjunction with the centre’s Green Earth programme.

The half-day programme was jointly organised by PAKK and Mukah Division Community Welfare Department, with Mukah Parliament Youth Oganisation and Mukah Anti-Drug Squad.

The activities included cleaning of compound, cutting grass, planting flowers, chillies and lemon grass, as well as painting the fence and wall of the building, beside building the centre’s garden.

The volunteers were Mukah PAKK committee members, Mukah Parliament Youth Organisation members, members of Kelab Anak Dagang Mukah and Anti-Drug Squad.

It was aimed at enhancing public awareness on the importance of protecting the environment.

It was also to promote the spirit of volunteerism among youths.

Mukah PAKK chairman Roy Valentine, Mukah Division Community Welfare Children Unit officer Johaini Jemat, Malaysia Sarawak Youth Member of Parliament Muhammad Tarmizi Karnain and Mukah PAKK supervisor Farah Waheeda also attended.
