KUCHING: Members of different Village Security and Development Committees (JKKKs) and associations here yesterday gathered  to clean up areas in the city.

The areas included Carpenter Street, Wayang Street and China Street which were constantly visited by tourists from all over the world.

Present to grace the event was the Administration Officer of the Kuching District Office, Jong Hse Jun, who said that the programme was held to prevent viral diseases from occurring due to unclean environments.

“These three areas are prime areas for tourists and therefore, we need to keep them clean so that they can enjoy the beauty of the city.

“At the same time, we do not want such diseases to affect tourists while they’re spending their leisure time in the city,” said Jong who represented the Kuching District Officer, Ibrahim Kipli at the event.

Some of the JKKKs and associations involved with the programme were the JKKK of Carpenter Street, JKKK of Tabuan Cina, JKKK of Foochow Road, the Lions Club of Kuching – Kota Samrahan and the Old Market Association.
