IGAN: The victory of the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate in Igan in the 15th general election (GE15) proves that the voters there are very confident in the GPS state government led by Premier Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.

In pointing this out, Daro assemblyman, Safiee Ahmad also attributed the success of the coalition in capturing 22 out of 31 seats in Sarawak in the election to the public trust in the GPS government.

He said personally, the coalition’s success in GE15 had inspired him to work harder in serving his constituents.

“I also hope that a new federal government capable of guaranteeing the country’s political stability will be formed later.

“This is important so that the new government will be able to concentrate on administration in order to ensure continued progress, welfare and wellbeing of the people and increase the confidence of investors in our country,” he said when contacted.

Safiee also hoped that the new federal government would work closely with the Sarawak government on recovering the state’s rights as enshrined in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

In GE15, GPS candidate , Ahmad Johnie Zawawi retained Igan with 15,824 votes. His rival from the Pakatan Harapan (PH) party, Hud Andre, only got 1,162 votes.
