Voting time to be extended on polling day


KUCHING: The voting time during polling day for the 12th Sarawak election will be extended by another 30 minutes.

Election Commission (EC) chairman Datuk Abdul Ghani Salleh said this is part of the enhancements made.

“The voting time is extended for another 30 minutes from 7.30am to 5pm compared to the 14th general election which is from 8am to 5pm,” he said on Wednesday (Nov 24).

He said the EC would also provide dedicated channels for voters aged 60 and above at each polling station.

“Voters with disabilities (OKU) will vote on Channel 1. A total of 13,871 OKU voters have been identified and they are registered with the Social Welfare Department.”

At the same time, Abdul Ghani said the date for registration of postal votes would be from Nov 8 to 24 for Malaysians who are overseas and those in the security and health sector.

He said for election workers, EC members, police, military and media practitioners, the dates would be from Nov 24 to Dec 3.

“The application for postal voting for Malaysians who are overseas and those in the security and health sector is being implemented online.”

“Applicants are advised to apply earlier when the application date opens to avoid any issues or difficulties.”
