KUCHING: Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Youth chief Datuk Snowdan Lawan described Tan Sri Dr Wan Junaiidi Tuanku Jaafar’s appointment as the President of the Senate as an outstanding choice.
He said there is no doubt that Wan Junaidi will make the Dewan Negara a well-respected institution.
“With vast experience, knowledge of Parliament and having served in several ministries in the federal government, it makes Tan Sri Dr Wan Junaidi an excellent choice to take over from his predecessor Tan Sri Rais Yatim,” he said in a statement today.
Snowdan also said Wan Junaidi, who is a lawyer by profession, coupled with his experience and practices in the legal fraternities and formalities, is a great asset to the nation.
“It’s a waste of resources if he retires just because his terms were due as a parliamentarian, while he has the capacity to contribute his knowledge and energy for the good of Malaysia,” he said.
He added Wan Junaidi, being conferred a ‘Tan Sri’ by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong recently is a testimony to this.
“As for Sarawak and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), we are proud of him for being the sole nominee for the appointment.
“Again, it is a testimony to Sarawak’s contribution to nation building which is well recognised,” said Snowdan.
Earlier today, Wan Junaidi was sworn in as the President of the Senate.
