Wang Kelian RCI proceeding enters 10th day

PUTRAJAYA: The Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) into the discovery of temporary transit camps and mass graves in Wang Kelian, Perlis continues today in its 10th day of hearing with the 27th witness testifying.

International Land Boundary Survey assistance director Mohd Hafiz Mat Ariffin gave his statement before the seven-member RCI panel headed by former Chief Justice Tun Ariffin Zakaria.

Mohd Hafiz, who is working in the Boundary Affairs Division of the Department of Survey and Mapping, was the individual referred to, to determine and confirm whether the incident locations in the Wang Kelian and Wang Burma cases were in Malaysian or Thai territory.

Apart from Mohd Hafiz, two more witnesses are also expected to testify today before the RCI panel which was set up with the consent of Yang di-Pertuan Agong on January 29.

It was held following the discovery of 139 graves and 28 human trafficking camps at the peak of Bukit Wang Burma in Wang Kelian located at the Malaysian-Thai border.

Among others, it is to review all documents and evidence relating to the case of temporary shelters and mass graves in Wang Kelian. – Bernama
