Warning of strong winds and rough seas

KUCHING: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a warning of strong winds and rough seas in Sarawak until this Thursday (Jan 7).

MetMalaysia said the first category warning also involved areas in Western Sabah and Labuan and Eastern Sabah.

“There will be strong north-easterly winds of 40 to 50 km/h (kilometre per hour) with wave height up to 3.5 metres are expected over the waters of these areas,” it said in its website on Monday (Jan 4).

It said this condition of strong winds and rough seas is dangerous to small vessels, recreational sea activities and water sports.

With the dangerous weather condition, fishermen especially are advised not to head out to the sea at the moment.

Meanwhile, there are no warning of continuous heavy rain in the Sarawak.

However, the weather forecast for Sarawak shows that there will isolate thunderstorms over inland areas until this Sunday (Jan 10).
