AMIDST moving into a new modern era, Kabong is still having problems when it comes to basic necessities such as water and electricity supply.

According to Mohd Chee Kadir (GPS-Kabong), Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg has allocated RM87 million to handle the water supply problem in the area. The announcement was made during ‘Program Sejiwa Senada’ in Saratok on April 22 last year.

“A year has passed, but the people have not yet seen the start of pipe installation works from the water storage tank in Simpang Roban to Pekan Kabong. We hope that the Sarawak Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) would get the related projects done as soon as possible.

“JBALB needs to fast track the project by using more contractors so that works could be done in a short period,” he told the August House in support to the motion of appreciation to TYT’s opening address yesterday.

Chee also requested for pipe installations in several longhouses in Ulu Roban such as Rh Belayong, Rh Chaong, Rh Empaling and Rh Entengan.

Apart from that, Chee informed the House that Sesco has built an additional line from Roban to Kabong which was completed few months ago and led to decrease of ‘black out’ incidents. However, the people in Kabong are still waiting for Sesco to make electricity connection from houses to houses.

“The District Office has sent necessary applications to related departments but to date, the villagers totalling to almost 1,000 in number, is still waiting,” he said.

Other than that, Chee also highlighted necessary developments such as telecommunication towers to improve internet connectivity, education, sports facilities, ferry transportation to connect Pekan Kabong to Kampung Paloh, village expansion schemes (SPK) in Hulu areas, and the construction of a new Kabong District Office Complex, community hall, and fire station.
