KUCHING: Serembu assemblyman Miro Simuh has slammed the opposition and its supporters for saying that the Sarawak government is getting supplies from national oil company Petronas for the supply of Petroleum Sarawak Berhad’s (Petros) brand of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in the state.

He said as the Petros-branded LPG was just recently launched, it cannot be expected to create miracles in a short period of time but in the long run, Petros will be a main player in the oil and gas industry.

“As Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said, Petros LPG will bring extra income for the state, especially when there is also a 50 percent subsidy from the federal government.

“All this while, that subsidy was fully monopolised and enjoyed by Petronas and Shell,” he told New Sarawak Tribune when contacted on Sunday (Dec 6).

Sarawak’s very own LPG by Petros was launched on Dec 2. The 14kg red gas cylinders will be distributed in Kuching and Samarahan next year before covering other parts in the state in 2022.

Abang Johari said Petros LPG will be sold at RM26.60 per cylinder statewide and will be exported to neighbouring Kalimantan, Indonesia as well.

“This red LPG barrel is a product of Sarawak as we have extracted the gas from our land and converted it to LPG. All of it — the gas, the barrel — is made in Sarawak,” he said.
