KUCHING: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg says his top priority is to look after the affairs of Sarawak rather than being a busybody with Malayan politics.

“We prefer to focus on state, rather than get involved in such issues which do not benefit Sarawak’s development,” he told the media after officiating at the Centre of Technical Excellence Sarawak and Sarawak Multimedia Authority (Centexs-SMA) Safari 2019 programme at the Penview Convention Centre in Demak yesterday.

In driving his point, Abang Johari felt there was no basis for Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) to comment on decisions made by its past coalition partners in Barisan Nasional since they had left the coalition after it lost in the 14th general election.

“No more BN… we have left the party. We do not want to be a busybody and interfere with other’s business.

“There is no point for us to be involved,” he asserted when pressed to comment on the Umno-PAS collaboration which saw the two Malay-based parties signing a ‘National Consensus Charter’ on Saturday.

Instead, he told the media he preferred to “mind our own business”.

“Don’t be busybody…just mind our own business (boh gago hal urang bah…jaga rumah diri jak…).

“No…I don’t know because that’s their politics. That’s why I don’t want to give any comment.

“We just concentrate on our own business…it is better to think how we can help to provide sufficient necessities for our people (Orang gik belum ada air… air belum cukup…).

“Don’t be busybody with others…It is better we think of ways to attract people to come and invest here (Iboh gago dengan rumah orang… bagus kita gago dengan kita empun jak).

“The moment our house is well-organised, people will come and invest. (The moment rumah kita bagus, orang akan datang agak nak invest).

“If husband and wife keep quarrelling and barking at each other, do you think people would come to visit? Instead provide good hospitality, who would know they might slap you at the end of the day (Mun laki bini mala bekelai sapa nak gago? Ujung-ujung ada kenak tampar).

“Because they are too busy fighting, they even forget to serve drinks for their guests (Kuatan gago bekelai, air pun lupak nak di hidang).

“But if we look after our house properly and are well-organise, everyone would love to come and visit the house. The guests even will be served with cakes and durian (Mun rumah kacak, xda bekelai ajak, semua orang suka agak. Siap hidang kek dengan durian pakei makan),” he said.

He brushed aside critics who viewed GPS as subservient compared to other political parties.

Arguing such claim could not be true, the GPS chairman described the party has proven its capability to govern Sarawak without the need to rely on any Malaya political parties to determine Sarawak’s future.
