KUCHING: If you are a fan of Batman or Batgirl then the webinar on bats on Feb 24 should be an event not to be missed.

The Sarawak Biodiversity Centre (SBC), which will host the event, said the subject was chosen as bats are considered a fascinating group of mammals that are known for their unique adaptations, such as the ability to fly and navigate using echolocation.

“Bats play important roles in ecosystems as pollinators, seed dispersers, and pest controllers.

“They are pollinators for many plant species, including those that are economically important crops, such as banana, durian and parkia,” SBC said in a statement.

The webinar will be delivered by Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) Faculty of Resource Science and Technology, Animal Resource Science and Management Programme lecturer Associate Professor Dr Faisal Ali Anwarali Khan.

The session will provide an overview on the diversity of bats, particularly highlighting its importance on the ecosystem.
