KUCHING: Sarawak Biodiversity Centre will be hosting a webinar on Herbal Research and Development Claims on June 30.

It will be moderated by an expert, Professor Dr Jamia Adzina Jamal from the Drug Herbal Research Centre, Faculty of Pharmacy, Centre for IDEA.

Dr Jamia will share the discovery of modern and innovative applications deployed to evaluate the quality, safety and efficacy of herbal products to establish authenticity of herbs prior to commercialisation.

She will also shed light on the scientific rationale for benefit and risk analysis as well as regulatory approval process especially in herbal medicine.

Dr Jamia is the director of the centre for IDEA-UKM and a registered pharmacist under Pharmacy Board of Malaysia and also the president of the Malaysian Natural Product Society, member of the Herbal Research Grant Scheme Technical Committee of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industries Malaysia as well as member of the Main and Technical Committees for Ministry of Health Malaysia (KKM).

Her areas of expertise are pharmacognosy (herbal analysis and standardisation) and pharmaceutical (analysis and quality control).
