KUCHING: The Sarawak Trade and Tourism Office Singapore (Statos) Matching Webinar on Sarawak food exports has secured food export order worth RM310,000.

In a press statement issued yesterday, Statos stated that the overwhelming response from the Singaporean business community has also attracted them to order a container of banana chips with Banana Tree Sdn Bhd worth S$11,000 and a whole container of Sarawak pepper worth US$65,000 from SaraSpice Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Malaysian Pepper Board.

Its chief executive officer Chang Guan said the webinar event was their first attempt to promote Sarawak products via online business matching.

“The success has shown that Sarawak products are appealing and competitively priced for the Singapore market.

“It also proved that, even in the midst of a global pandemic, business deals could still be successfully concluded by making good use of technology,” he said in a press statement.

Statos also said that they would be looking for more potential investors and importers in Singapore and bring them to Sarawak to see for themselves the high quality and range of food products available.

“This showcase is about to give Singaporeans a virtual taste of some of Sarawak’s fresh products but as soon as regional travel starts up again,” it added.

The Sarawak product showcase centre in Singapore further added that the centre would organise more one-on-one and group virtual business matching sessions are planned in the near future.

“We encourage any interested exporters to make contact to request a future presentation slot,” it said.
