Wee-hour fire razes diesel fuel tanks at depot

KUCHING: A fire destroyed several diesel fuel plastic storages and a tanker at a depot used to store confiscated and seized goods at Jalan Ellis here just after midnight this morning.

Bomba was alerted of the fire involving burning lorries and a tanker near SK Lumba Kuda at 12.55 am and firefighters from Padungan and Batu Lintang Bomba stations were dispatched to the scene.

“By the time the firemen arrived, the fire had destroyed a tanker and several diesel fuel plastic storages. A five-tonne lorry was also damaged.

“The team were able to save 14 out of 16 lorries. However, the premises which stores confiscated and seized goods such as petroleum and LPGs was not damaged,” a spokesman said.

There were no damages to nearby structures. There were no casualties.

Firefighters were able to put out the fire using water from the fire engine and a nearby fire hydrant.

The operation ended at 1.49 am.

Some of the diesel fuel plastic tanks that are destroyed as a fireman continues to battle the fire.
